Men's and Women's Cross-Country To Compete in the Cairn Highlander Invitational on Saturday

WHAT TO KNOW
  • The Immaculata men's and women's cross-country teams return to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Cairn University Highlander Invitational.
  • The event features a field of regional Division III schools, and Division II schools competing on a course on Cairn's campus.
  • The men will be running an 8K race beginning at 10:00 a.m., and they women will be running a 6K event at 11:00 a.m.
 
HISTORY AT THE CAIRN HIGHLANDER INVITATIONAL
  • Immaculata last competed in this event in 2022, and both teams finished first place in the team competition.
  • The Immaculata men finished first out of four teams competing that day. Chris Watson finished seventh overall, and Connor Kakowski finished eighth overall for the Mighty Macs.
  • The Immaculata women finished first out of five teams competing. Kimberly Alvarez finished second overall for the Mighty Macs.
 
MIGHTY MAC MEN'S NOTES
  • The Mighty Macs men's team will be led by senior Connor Kakowski who finished 24th overall at the Philly Cross Classic dropping his time in that event by three minutes from his time in 2024.
  • Jimmy Lauer finished 38th overall at the Philly Cross classic with a time of 34:42.85.
  • Chris Watson finished 39th overall at the Philly Cross Classic with a time of 34:42.93.
  • In his interview on the "Tuesday Talk – IU Athletics Podcast" Samuel Domencic, who will not run this week, talked about how the team has worked on pack running this season, and will look to use this as the approach the conference championships.
  • Jason Canterino, Nick Heinlein, and Luca Patrone worked well together in the Philly Cross Classic pushing each other. They will look to work together to overtake runners late in the race.
  • Kendall Budlow continues to show improvement in each race he runs, as he lowered his time by 14 minutes in the Philly Cross Classic.
  • Yerlin Ortiz gave an impressive performance in the Philly Cross Classic in his first ever 8K event on a difficult course.
 
MIGHTY MAC WOMEN'S
  • Aubrey Donahue has continued her development into an elite runner. She finished second overall at the Philly Cross Classic, jumping up from fifth place in 2024, and lowered her time by a minute on a difficult course.
  • Jayla Gross continues to improve as a distance runner finishing 15th overall with a time of 22:42.24 at the Philly Cross Classic.
  • Breanne Dymek ran a strong race at the Philly Cross Classic finishing 20th, with a time of 23:45.25. She dropped her time at this event almost two and a half minutes.
  • Shannon Barycki also ran a solid race at the Philly Cross Classic finishing 34th with a time of 25:17.98.
  • Immaculata's core of freshman Molly Wasylenko, Madeline McBride, Nora Roe, and Aubrey Bickford did a fantastic job competing on a tough course at the Belmont Plateau for the first time.

  • The Immaculata men's and women's cross-country teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 18, when the compete at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle.
