Women's Tennis Opens Fall Schedule Hosting Wilkes This Afternoon

THE STORYLINE
  • The Immaculata University women's tennis team opens their fall schedule this afternoon when they host Wilkes University at the IU Tennis Courts at 3:00 pm.
  • The Mighty Macs will be looking to bounce back this season, after a season that saw them not qualify for the Atlantic East Conference finals for the first time since the conference formed In 2018-19.
  • Wilkes will be participating in their first team match of the season this afternoon as there after the players participated in the King's College Invitational Tournament on September 8th
MEET THE MIGHTY MACS
  • Second year coaching staff of Head Coach Susan Callahan and Assistant Coach Anna Degnan return to for the 2024-25 season.
  • Senior Pam Kontaras (Broomall, Pa. / Marple Newtown) will lead the Mighty Macs in 2024-25. Kontaras Went 5-6 in dual singles competition playing at first singes. Went 3-1 n Atlantic East Conference play. Won her final three AEC matches. Teamed with Delaney Brown  to go 7-5 in first doubles competition, including winning five matches in a row. Named to the All-Atlantic East Conference First Team in Singles and Doubles. Named to the 2022-23 Atlantic East All-Academic Team.
  • Junior Delaney Brown (Cape May, N.J. / Lower Cape May Regional) will be another leader for the Mighty Macs in 2024-25. Brown went 5-7 overall in singles competition at second singles. She went 7-5 with her doubles partner going 7-5 playing first doubles and had a five-match winning streak. Named to the All-Atlantic East Second Team in doubles. Named to the 2023-24 Atlantic East All-Academic Team. Brown was the Atlantic East Conference Rookie of the Year in 2022-23.
  • Graduate Student Audrey Keen (Collegeville, Pa. / Gwynedd Mercy Academy) returns for another year with the Mighty Macs, and will provide veteran leadership. Keen went 3-7 in singles competition playing third singles. She went 2-8 playing second doubles with partners Sydney Mehaffey, Peyton Conrad, and Marie Mavroudis. Named to the 2023-24 Atlantic East All-Academic Team.
  • Junior Athena Kritikson (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Clearview Regional) joins the Immaculata tennis team for the 2024-25 season.
  • Immaculata welcomes an incoming class of five freshmen for the 2024-25 season that includes: Sophia Carey (Penns Grove, N.J. / Cardinal O'Hara), Hailey Elwell (Cape May, N.J. / Lower Cape May Regional), Elizabeth Madsen (Coatesville, Pa. / Coatesville), Laura Pharo (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic), and Wendy Weah (Darby, Pa. / Cardinal O'Hara).
SCOUTING WILKES UNIVERSITY
  • Wilkes University opens their women's tennis season after going 4-10 overall, and 4-5 in Landmark Conference play. The Colonels fell in the Landmark Conference Tournament to Scranton 5-0.
  • No. 1 singles player Tea Amerise advanced to the finals and was the runner-up in the King's Tournament on September 8th.
  • No. 2 singles player Julia Spaeth won her quarter-final match but fell to the eventual champion in the semifinals of the King's Tournament held on September 8th.
  • No. 3 singles player Kensington Edmond lost her quarter-final match in a tiebreaker in the King's Tournament.
  • The No. 1 doubles team of Amerise and Sydney Farmer lost in the semifinals at the King's Tournament.
  • The No. 2 doubles team of Spaeth and Isabel Schreffler won their quarterfinal match but lost in the semifinals in the King's Tournament.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Immaculata women's tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 25th when they travel to play at Lancaster Bible College at 3:30 pm.
