ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Immaculata University women's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Eastern University by a 4-3 final score.
The Mighty Macs begin the season 0-1, while the Eagles open their season 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Immaculata opened doubles play with a victory at No. 1 as Hailey Elwell and Sophia Carey defeated Eastern's Mary Brusstar and Delaney Stryd, 6-3.
- Eastern answered at No. 2 doubles, where Kiley McHugh and Anaya Birch earned a 6-3 victory over Immaculata's Laura Pharo and Ashley Batejan.
- The No. 3 doubles match was not played, leaving the doubles point split between the two teams.
- In singles action, Sophia Carey gave the Mighty Macs a 2-1 lead with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 victory over Kiley McHugh at No. 2 singles.
- Ashley Batejan also earned a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Gabby Sutton, 6-0, 6-1.
- Eastern's Delaney Stryd responded at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Laura Pharo.
- Mary Brusstar rallied past Hailey Elwell at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 in a third-set super tiebreak.
- Eastern also earned a point at No. 5 singles by forfeit.
- A No. 6 singles match was not played.
