IMMACULATA, Pa.- For a third consecutive season, the Immaculata men's basketball team will open their Atlantic East Conference Tournament run against rival Cabrini on Monday night. The Mighty Macs will be hosting a home playoff game at Alumnae Hall for the first time since 2014. Tip-off will be at 8:00 PM.
In 2021-22, the Mighty Macs defeated Cabrini 89-86 in Nerney Field House to advance to the Atlantic East Semifinals against Marymount. Prior to the canceled 2020-21 season, the Mighty Macs defeated Cabrini 91-86 to advance to the Atlantic East Semifinals against Wesley in 2019-20.
"It means a lot to us that we can host a home playoff game" stated Head Coach
Jayson Hyman. "The guys are excited to play in front of their peers, family, and friends for the biggest game of the season."
The Mighty Macs finished the season with a 6-6 record in Atlantic East Conference play, earning a split in the season series with Cabrini.
The Mighty Macs defeated Cabrini on January 11
th at Alumnae Hall 76-49.
Keith Farmer scored 17 points and had nine rebounds,
John Proctor had 13 points and added eight rebounds.
Tyler Tillery scored 10 points and had four rebounds. Cabrini evened the season series with the Macs at home on February 8
th as Ahmadu Sarnor scored 23 points and Aquil Stewart scored 21 points for the Cavs.
Tim Schultice led the Macs with 21 points, and
John Flood pulled down 10 rebounds.
Despite having success against Cabrini in the playoffs in the past, Hyman knows this will not have influence on Monday night.
"We will need to defend at a high level. Cabrini has two of the top scorers in the conference, we will need to do our best to contain those guys" continued Hyman. "Cabrini is a tough opponent, and we will need contributions from everyone to be successful."
Aquil Stewart has lead Cabrini offensively on the season, scoring 381 points while leading the team with 103 assists in 24 games played. Ahmadu Sarnor has scored 318 points while pulling down a team leading 170 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
Tyler Tillery has led the way for the Macs offensively, scoring 255 points over 25 games.
Tim Schultice has scored 252 points and has team high 31 steals.
Keith Farmer has scored 214 points and leads the team with 119 rebounds in 24 games played.
John Flood leads the team with 64 assists and matches up against the best guards in the conference on defense for the Macs.
John Proctor,
Brandon Perez, and
Gregory Vlassopoulos will play important roles in the playoffs.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to reach the playoffs in a competitive conference as well as having the ability to host" concluded Hyman. "I want our guys to come out have fun and leave it all on the court."
