Women's Basketball Ready to Host Cabrini in Atlantic East Semifinal

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Following a strong showing in their Atlantic East Quarterfinal matchup against Centenary on Monday, the No. 2 Mighty Macs women's basketball team returns to Alumnae Hall on Wednesday, February 23rd as they host the No. 3 Cabrini Cavaliers.

"Our team is very excited to be in the semifinals tomorrow," said head coach Chrissy Rhine. "We're ready to get back out onto the court and play for a chance at the conference championship!"

The Macs punched their ticket to the conference semifinals on Monday, defeating the No. 7 Centenary Cyclones 62-43. Keeping the Cyclones to just 14 points in the first half, the Macs owned a 36-14 lead at the half before cruising their way to victory in the second half. Four Macs reached double digits in points scored on the night. Freshmen Abigail Lentowski and Reese Mullins led the way with 14 points and 11 points, respectively while Morgan Falcone and Theresa Kearney scored 10 points apiece. Falcone also recorded her first career double-double, leading the Macs with 10 rebounds on the night.

"Going up against Cabrini, we need to be better on the defensive end than we were against Centenary," continued Rhine. "It comes down to communication, so we'll make sure to sure up on that end before Wednesday night."

Cabrini, meanwhile, comes into Wednesday night's matchup after defeating Marywood 67-36 in their quarterfinal matchup on Monday. Abby Paolini led the cavaliers with 12 points scored on the night while Katie Rodriguez and Miranda Liebtag each scored 10 points while leading Cabrini defensively with 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds respectively.

The Mighty Macs and Cavaliers have met two times this season thus far, with the season series standing even at 1-1. The Macs won the first contest back on January 12th by a score of 53-50 while the Cavaliers won the most recent bout on February 2nd 53-47. In the Macs' victory, Theresa Kearney and Kaitlyn Racobaldo shut down the Cavaliers' offense, combing for 27 rebounds on the night.

"We have to rebound consistently tomorrow night and match their physicality. It is going to be a close game, so we need to continue sharing the ball well and work for the best shot if we want to win," concluded Rhine.
