RADNOR, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, the Mighty Macs will kick off their Atlantic East Conference Tournament run against rival Cabrini on Monday. The Macs will travel to Nerney Field House on Monday for an 8:00 P.M. tip-off against the familiar foe.
In the 2019-20 season, the Mighty Macs took down the Cavaliers 91-86, punching a ticket to the Atlantic East Semifinals against Wesley. Following the canceled 2020-21 season, the Mighty Macs returned to Conference play this season, going 4-8 in-conference including split decisions against Cabrini.
"It feels great to be back competing for a conference championship," said head coach
Jayson Hyman. "The guys are excited and, for a lot of them, it's there first time experiencing a collegiate playoff game."
The Macs dropped their first contest against the Cavaliers 70-68 before claiming game two of their regular season series 88-81. Freshman
Dylan Crews led the Macs on their way to victory in game two, scoring 17 points while adding three rebounds, two assist, and one steal.
Gregory Vlassopoulos and
Keith Farmer also recorded 15 and 12 points respectively on the contest.
"We prepare for Cabrini by revisiting our previous games against them, fixing any issues we had, and devising a new plan of attack," said Hyman. "Preparation is key."
Aquil Stewart has led the Cavaliers offensively on the season, scoring 350 points while also leading the team with 93 assists. Ryan Byars and Billy Warren, meanwhile, have been important assets defensively for the Cavaliers as Byars leads the Cavs with 179 rebounds while Warren leads with 24 blocked shots.
Vlassopoulos has led the way on the season for the Macs offensively, scoring 269 points over the Macs' 25 games played.
Asa Kitchen has also played a critical role in the Macs' offense, leading the team with 58 assists while also leading with 134 points scored in conference play.
Tyler Tillery has recorded 37 blocked shots on the season to lead the Mighty Macs and now holds the program record for most blocked shots on his career with 84. Tillery, along with
Keith Farmer, have also been the Macs' key rebounding threats for the Macs as Farmer has recorded 142 and Tillery 135 on the season.
"Traveling to Cabrini, our main message is to continue to compete and continue to get better. We've stood in the face of adversity throughout the season, and we are still here, so go out, have fun, and enjoy the moment," concluded Hyman.
