Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.- In the team's first match of the spring season, the Immaculata women's tennis team took to the road to take on Swarthmore in non-league action. Immaculata battled throughout the morning but Swarthmore was able to earn the victory winning by a final score of 9-0.
In doubles action,
Caleigh Masterman and
Elizabeth Lipscomb dropped first doubles by a final of 8-4 while
Morgan Jacob and
Annamarie Degnan fell in second doubles by a final of 8-1. The third doubles pairing of
Kelly O'Brien and
Jessica Dougherty also dropped their match by a final of 8-0, which allowed Swarthmore to carry a 3-0 lead into doubles play.
At first singles, Masterman battled through the opening set but fell by a final of 6-3 before falling in the second set by a final of 6-1 to drop the match by a final of 2-0. Jacob played in the second singles position falling 6-0, 6-0 while Degnan dropped third singles 6-1, 6-0, which enabled the Garnet to claim a 6-0 lead. Lipscomb battled in the fourth set but eventually dropped the first set 6-0 before falling in the second set 6-1. In fifth and sixth singles, Dougherty and O'Brien each battled before falling 6-0, 6-0 as Swarthmore prevailed by a final of 9-0.
Immaculata will return to action on March 8
th at Baldwin-Wallace to begin the teams Spring Trip to the Sunshine State.
