Macs Start CSAC Title Journey Hosting Cedar Crest

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team (24-14, 17-5 CSAC) will look to continue their outstanding season as the number three seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason with an elimination game this afternoon against No. 6 Cedar Crest.  With a win, the Mighty Macs would advance to face No. 2 Cabrini on Friday morning at 10 a.m. to open the four-team double elimination tournament portion.
 
Gwynedd Mercy earned the number one seed while No. 5 Marywood will travel to No. 4 Neumann in another elimination game this afternoon.
 
The Mighty Macs are looking to make another deep run into the CSAC postseason after losing in the winner-take-all championship game to Neumann last season.  The Mighty Macs eliminated Gwynedd Mercy, 4-2, in the first round last year.  They fell to Neumann before defeating Marywood, Cabrini, and Neumann consecutively before dropping the finale to Neumann, 5-0.
 
IU and Cedar Crest played each other in a doubleheader on April 13th at the IU Softball Field and the Macs came up with the sweep of the Falcons.  In the opener, the Macs trailed 7-3 after three innings after allowing seven in the third, but they slowly clawed their way back with two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth, including the game-winning RBI single by senior Annemarie Bartow.  Freshman Renee DeAngelis was outstanding with 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief for the win.
 
In the second game, the Macs pounded out 17 hits and scored runs in all six of their at bats en route to a 12-4 victory in six innings.  Bartow collected three RBIs on a triple and home run, while sophomores Ashley Rey and Emily Mesey each had three hits.
 
The Mighty Macs come in having won seven consecutive games while Cedar Crest swept their final doubleheader of the season at Cairn, 10-2 and 11-3, to get into the CSAC postseason.
 
The Mighty Macs have been anchored by a great balance of offense and pitching all season long.  In the circle, the have the second best ERA in the CSAC at 2.98.  Freshman starter Emma Bischoff is 13-5 with an ERA of 2.98 and 93 strikeouts while junior starter Jessica Bormann is 7-5 with a 3.28 ERA and just six walks over 74 2/3 innings.  Combined, they have tossed 16 complete games and been a part of eight shutouts.
 
Offensively, the Macs hit .345 as a team and are led by the middle of their order of Rey, Bartow, and freshman Keani Hindle.  Bartow is hitting .472 with 18 doubles, five triples, five home runs, and 40 RBIs.  Rey is hitting .431 with a CSAC-leading nine home runs and second in RBIs with 46 and Hindle is batting .423 with seven home runs.
 
For the Falcons, Molly Schnaubelt is hitting .466 and leads the CSAC with 50 RBIs.
 
The game begins at 4 p.m. at the IU Softball Field.
