Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Immaculata University softball team fell late in both ends of its doubleheader at Swarthmore (10-2) Saturday, 2-1 and 6-2. Junior

Sophomore
Abigail Carter finished the twin bill 3-for-7 at the plate with a double.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Bormann was dominant in the circle to begin the day, retiring the first six batters she faced. The junior allowed her first hit in the third, but bounced back to strand her at third to keep Swarthmore off the board.
-The Macs struggled to back Bormann with any run support, stranding runners in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings. IU mustered only two hits through the first six frames - singles off the bats of
Abigail Carter and
Annemarie Bartow.
-Bormann was able to match Swarthmore starter Emily Bowman stride for stride in the circle, allowing only two hits through five as the two sides remained scoreless heading into the sixth inning.
-Swarthmore broke through with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on consecutive RBI doubles as the Garnet took the lead into the final frame.
-IU threatened to even the game at two when
Kayla Sponsel led off the seventh with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Following a two--out walk to Carter,
Michaela Petito doubled into the left-center gap to score Sponsel, but the Macs stranded the tying run in Carter at third to end the game.

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Saturday's game two proved to be another pitcher's duel in the circle, as the Garnet led 1-0 through five after scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first.
-Petito started in the circle and limited Swarthmore to three hits in her three innings of work, before
Renee DeAngelis and
Morgan Macrae came on in relief to combine for two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit to keep the Macs in the game late.
-Despite getting baserunners on in every inning, IU was stifled at the plate by the Garnet pitching staff, stranding runners in scoring position in each of the first five frames.
-In the top of the sixth, the Macs got the hit they needed to tie the game at one when
Ashley Rey led off with a double down the left field line and came around to score on
Sydney Sturgill's base knock back through the middle.
-The Garnet answered in a big way in their half of the sixth, striking for five runs on five hits to take a commanding 6-1 lead heading into the seventh.
-The Macs rallied to push across a run when Bartow crossed the plate on an
Emily Mesey single after tripling to right to begin the inning, but that was all IU would get in the 6-2 final.
