ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball team got its second Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) split of the weekend Sunday as it lost the opener to Cedar Crest, 5-4, in eight innings and won the second game, 10-7.

Emily Mesey was 6-for-8 with three RBIs in the two games. Both
Annemarie Bartow and
Ashley Rey finished the doubleheader 4-for-8, and Bartow had two RBIs.

In the second game, the Mighty Macs got out to a 10-0 lead on the Falcons scoring two runs in the first inning, one run in the third, two runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth and four runs in the sixth.

Immaculata's (11-9, 8-2 CSAC) two runs in the first came with two outs as Rey singled, Bartow doubled and Mesey had a RBI single to plate both runners.

The Mighty Macs added their third run in the second inning as
Abigail Carter singled and
LeighAnn Brocious had a bunt single, and Carter scored on a throwing error.

In the fourth inning,
Michaela Petito reached on an error and
Sydney Sturgill doubled to left field.
Victoria Post hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Petito scored on the play.
Kayla Sponsel then scored Sturgill with her single through the left side for a 5-0 lead.

Immaculata made it a 6-0 lead in the top of the fifth as Mesey singled, stole second, and then Petito doubled into left field to plate Mesey.

The Mighty Macs put together six-straight hits in the sixth inning to power their four-run inning. Sponsel started things off with a single, and she then scored on Carter's single. Brocious then singled to get runners at the corner for Rey to hit a RBI single. Bartow then loaded the bases for the Mighty Macs with her single to left field. Mesey was the next batter for the Mighty Macs, and she singled into right field to score one run. Immaculata's 10th run scored on a wild pitch.

Cedar Crest (14-5, 7-3 CSAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run home run, and the Falcons scored four more in the seventh, including a three-run home run, for the final score.

The Mighty Macs had 16 hits during the game, and Rey and Mesey led the way with three hits each.

Petito got the win in the circle going six and one-third innings. She gave up 13 hits and seven runs while striking out three.
Nicole Kowalski tossed the last two outs to earn a save.

Immaculata had a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring two runs in the first and one more in the fourth. In the first, Petito reached on an error, and scored on another error. Bartow reached on an error, and she scored on a double by Mesey. The Mighty Macs' run in the fourth came as
Moriah Hunter singled and Petito hit a RBI single.

After Bormann faced just one batter over the minimum through the first four innings, Cedar Crest hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to lead Immaculata's lead to 3-2.

Immaculata extended its lead to 4-2 with a Bartow home run in the top of the seventh.

Cedar Crest put together four singles in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.

The Falcons then had a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth by Molly Schnaubelt, and Laura Rau bunted for a single that allowed Schnaubelt to score on an error.

Bormann started and pitched the first seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out two. Kowalski came in for the eighth inning and allowed the winning run on two hits.

Immaculata plays Ursinus in non-conference action on Monday, April 10, at 3 p.m.
