CLERMONT, Fla. – Immaculata University's softball team wrapped up its spring break trip at the PFX Spring Games on Wednesday, March 8, by splitting action for the day. Following a loss to College of Saint Benedict, 10-2, the Mighty Macs defeated Saint Vincent, 5-4, in dramatic fashion.

The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the top of the seventh, when Saint Vincent hit a two-run home run to take the 4-2 lead. Immaculata (2-4) the headed into the bottom half of the inning with
Victoria Post being hit by a pitch to get a base runner for the Mighty Macs. Then
Abigail Carter singled, and
Ashley Rey loaded the bases as she reached on an error.
Annemarie Bartow reached on a fielder's choice as Carter was called out on the play, but
Angelina Welch, who was pitch-running for Post, was forced to stay at third.
Emily Mesey then proved to be the hero as she delivered a three-RBI walkout double to left for the Mighty Macs, capping the trip with a 5-4 victory. Â

Saint Vincent (2-5) scored first in the top of the third with a home run, and extended its lead to 2-0 in the third inning.

Immaculata tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Carter reached on an error and
Moriah Hunter had a bunt single. Bartow was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Mesey singled to score both Carter and Hunter.

Mesey was 2-for-4 with all five RBIS in the game.
Michaela Petito got the win in the circle as she tossed all seven inning giving up 14 hits, four runs and striking out one batter.

The Mighty Macs began the day with a 10-2 loss in five innings to Saint Benedict. Immaculata was down just one run (3-2) heading into the bottom of the fifth, but a seven-run inning by the Blazers cut the game short.

Saint Benedict (6-2) plated two runs in the first inning for an early lead, but Immaculata came back in the top of the second scoring one run. Mesey singled to get on base for the Mighty Macs, and with two outs,
Sydney Sturgill walked to advance Mesey to second base.
Kayla Sponsel then had a RBI single that brought Mesey around to score for Immaculata.

The Blazers scored one more run in the bottom of the third for a 3-1 lead. However, Immaculata chipped away at its deficit in the fourth with one more run. Bartow led the inning off with a walk, and Petito reached on a fielder's choice, but Bartow was also safe at second on the play. Sturgill then singled to load the bases for Sponsel, who hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Bartow to score. Immaculata loaded the bases again after Hunter singled, but a fly ball ended the inning for the Mighty Macs.

Jessica Bormann was able to pitch out of a two-out bases loaded situation in the bottom of the fourth, but Saint Benedict capitalized in the fifth with seven runs, all unearned.

Mesey was 2-for-3 to lead the Mighty Macs in hits, while Sponsel had both RBIs for the game.
Â
Bormann went four and two-thirds innings giving up 11 hits, 10 runs, but only three earned runs, and she walked three batters.

Immaculata is back in action on Tuesday, March 14, at 3 p.m. traveling to Wesley.
