Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Immaculata University's softball team started its Tuesday morning off with a 13-0 shutout against the College of Saint Elizabeth for its first win this season. However, Immaculata was unable to make it a clean sweep as it dropped its second game of the day against Alfred, 5-1.

Jessica Bormann tossed a gem to start the day as she only allowed two hits, the first two batters of the game for Saint Elizabeth, and had the five-inning complete game win. She also struck out three hitters.

Immaculata (1-3) scored in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings, putting up four runs in each the first and fifth innings. The Mighty Macs' 13 runs came on 12 hits and six walks.

The game started with a single from Abigail Carter and Ashley Rey later singled to get runners at the corners for Annemarie Bartow. Bartow produced a RBI a single to left field, and the Mighty Macs got to bases full following Emily Mesey's walk. Sydney Sturgill walked to plate Immaculata's second run, and Victoria Post singled to right field scoring the final two runs of the inning.

Immaculata's two runs in the second inning came off of Mesey's double into left center as Bormann and Bartow both scored. Bormann had singled and Bartow walked to get on base.

Bormann led off the fourth inning with a single into center field, and Rey followed with a two-run home run over the centerfield fence. Bartow continued the hit parade with a double into right field, and Mesey produced another run with a single into center.

Immaculata put the game out of reach in the fifth as Kayla Sponsel and Isabella Mirarchi each walked to begin the inning. Then with two outs, Rey reached on an error that allowed both runners to score for an 11-0 Immaculata lead. Bartow singled to left field as Rey scored, and after the Mighty Macs loaded the bases, Post was hit by a pitch to plate Bartow.

Bartow was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Mesey went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, one walk and one run scored. Rey and Bormann were each 2-for-4, and Rey had two RBIs. Post also finished the game with three runs batted in for the Mighty Macs.

Alfred (3-3) scored all five of its runs in the first inning coming off three home runs, including two two-run homers.

Immaculata also scored its one run of the contest in the bottom of the first as Carter reached on an error to lead off for the Mighty Macs, and would later come around to score. Carter advanced to third on Bormann's single, and Rey hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Carter to score.

Immaculata tried to get a rally together in almost every inning the rest of the game. In the second inning, Michaela Petito and Meghan Kugler both had one-out singles, but it was cut short.

The Mighty Macs started the fourth inning with a promising start as Sturgill walked and Petito followed with a single. Sturgill was then cut down at third on Kugler's fielder's choice for the first out of the inning. Then with two outs, Carter reached on an error to load the bases for Immaculata, but all three runners were left on base.

The fifth inning produced a double by Bartow, and Sturgill walked and Petito singled to load the bases again for the Mighty Macs, who were not able to produce any runs.

Moriah Hunter and Carter started the sixth inning with singles, but the next three batters could not push a run across.

Petito finished the game 3-for-4, while Bormann and Bartow each had two hits. In the circle, Petito gave up eight hits and five earned runs in the loss.

Immaculata plays Saint Benedict at 11:30 a.m. and Saint Vincent at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, for its final two games of the PFX Spring Games.
