Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHESTER, Pa. – Immaculata University softball dropped both ends of its non-conference doubleheader at Widener Wednesday evening, falling 5-4 in 11 innings and 11-5 to the host Pride.

The Mighty Macs (5-7) had a chance to win both games but the Pride (12-4) came up in the final at-bat of each game to score the winning run.

The opener was a thriller as the lead went back-and-forth during the first seven innings. Immaculata scored the go-ahead run (4-3) in the top of the seventh, but Widener came back and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning to send the game into extra's. After three scoreless innings, the Pride broke through in the bottom of the 11th inning for the winning run.

Immaculata scored in the first as Abigail Carter singled, and scored on Annemarie Bartow's single. Widener also scored one run in the first to tie the game at 1-1.

The Pride took the lead (2-1) in the bottom of the third with two singles and a double.

Immaculata tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth as Michael Petito singled, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on Paige Murphy's single. The Mighty Macs took a 3-2 lead with one more run in the fifth inning as Ashley Rey homered.

Widener again evened the score in the bottom of the sixth, 3-3, on a solo home run.

The Immaculata half of the seventh inning started with Carter hitting a single. Rey then hit a one-out single to get runners on the corner for Bartow, who had a RBI single that scored Carter from third for a 4-3 edge.

Widener got a single from Jamie Gosselin to begin its half of the seventh, but Immaculata was able to get the next two batters to ground out. Down to their last out, the Pride's Lauren DelRomano doubled to bring the tying run across the plate.

Carter, Rey, Bartow and Murphy all picked up two hits in the game. Bartow also had two RBIs.

Jessica Bormann started and went the first seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks and struck out two. Nicole Kowalski took the loss as she tossed three innings allowing one hit and one run. She walked three and had three strikeouts.

Back-to-back doubles by Emily Mesey and Michaela Petito scored the first run of game two for the Mighty Macs in the second inning. However, the Pride tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second with a two-out single.

Following Widener taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third after runs scored on back-to-back doubles, Immaculata capitalized on three errors by Widener in the fourth to score one run and make it 3-2.

The Pride pushed their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, and score one more run in the fifth to lead 5-2.

The Mighty Macs came to bat in the sixth with Meghan Kugler hitting a lead-off home run, and with two outs in the inning, Annemarie Bartow doubled to plate Sydney Sturgill, who reached on a fielder's choice, and Ashley Rey, who singled, which tied the game at 5-5.

Widener then scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to break open the game for the 11-5 win.
