GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team had a 77-35 setback on the road at Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
 
Immaculata (7-15, 7-5 CSAC) was paced by Theresa Walsh's nine points, and Walsh came down with seven rebounds. Amber Ballinger led the Mighty Macs on the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with seven points and four steals. Tamyra Laws added four points and nine rebounds. Annie Kohutka also chipped in four points while making two assists. Mamako Johnson grabbed five rebounds while scoring three points.
 
Gwynedd Mercy (11-10, 9-3 CSAC) started the contest on a 12-0 run during the first six minutes. Immaculata ended the Griffins' run with a Laws jumper from inside the lane with 3:33 on the first quarter clock. Walsh had a layup with 2:11 remaining in the quarter, and Gwynedd Mercy led, 14-4, after the first period.
 
The second quarter started with Johnson making a jumper to cut Gwynedd Mercy's lead to 14-6 at the 9:42 mark. However, Charlotte Kucowski sunk a three-pointer to push the Griffins lead back to double figures. Kohutka made a pair of free throws with 8:36 on the clock as the Mighty Macs again got within single digits (17-8) for the Griffins.
 
However, Gwynedd Mercy would go on a 21-1 run to get to the final minute before halftime. Gina Cocci hit a three to break up the spurt by the Griffins, and Gwynedd Mercy held a 40-12 lead at the break.
 
The Griffins continued to grow their lead during the final two quarters.
 
Immaculata travels to Notre Dame on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
