Macs Comeback Comes Up Short In Shootout At Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team struggled in the first half at Cabrini (4-1, 1-0 CSAC) as they trailed by 25 points at intermission of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday, but they battled all the way back to get the deficit to single digits, however they were unable to come all the way back in a 107-97 loss.  The Macs (3-3, 1-2 CSAC) set a program record for points in a half by scoring 62 in the second half.
 
Senior Will Chapman had the best game of his career as he set the program record with 12 assists and a career high 21 points, including 11-of-12 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Jordan Ambrose (9-for-15 FG) led the Mighty Macs with 25 points and nine rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams played close early with the lead changing twice and the Macs getting a lead up to three points on three occasions, the latest one coming at 14-11 on a layup by Ambrose four minutes into the game
-The score would be tied 17-17 with 13:48 to go before halftime before the Cavaliers ran off a 16-5 spurt to take a 33-22 advantage with 8:33 to go before the half
-After a Mighty Mac bucket, the Cavaliers went on an 8-0 run to go up by 17, and they continued to tack on until halftime when they took a 60-35 lead to the locker room
-In the second half, Cabrini continued to lead comfortably at 68-46 with 13:52 remaining in the game when the Macs finally started to cut into the lead as they began a 23-10 run to make it a nine point game
-Ambrose hit a three to spark the run followed by five straight from Piekarski.  An Ambrose three-point play followed by free throws from Chapman and back-to-back buckets by sophomore Jeffrey Powell-Young made it a nine point game
-Cabrini grew the lead back up to 12, but the Macs battled back and had it at nine again at 92-83 after a pair of free throws from Chapman with five minutes remaining in the game
-The Macs were unable to cut any further into the deficit in the 10-point defeat
 
KEY TEAM STATS
-The Macs were 32-of-77 (41.6%) from the field and 22-of-39 (56.4%) in the second half while Cabrini was 35-of-78 (44.9%)
-Each team shot 22 three pointers with the Macs knocking down nine and Cabrini hitting seven
-Both teams were active at the line as IU was 24-for-34 (70.6%) and Cabrini was 30-for-36 (83.3%)
-Cabrini grabbed 53 boards and the Macs pulled down 41
