IMMACULATA, Pa. -Â Led by a pair of freshmen,
Natalie Ayoub and
Theresa Kearney, Immaculata overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Bryn Athyn, 50-41, in the 2017-18 season opener inside Alumnae Hall on Wednesday night, November 15.
Ayoub led the Mighty Macs (1-0) with 16 points and was second in rebounding with seven. She made 6 of 11 shots from the field and was 4-for-4 from the foul line, while contributing one blocked shot and three steals. Kearney finished with 11 points while leading Immaculata on the glass with eight rebounds. She also swiped three steals.

Shannon Kelly added nine points and four rebounds off the bench, while junior
Amber Ballinger chipped in five points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Zeniyah Sanders paced Bryn Athyn (0-1) in the loss with 14 points, and Clayshonia Cogmon was the Lions' leader on the boards with 17 rebounds.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Bryn Athyn closed out the final 3:40 of the first quarter by scoring the eight seven points to take a 14-10 lead. Â Kearney hit a jumper for Immaculata just seconds into the second quarter, but the Mighty Macs went through a dry spell as they did not score again until 3:53 to play before intermission as
Amber Ballinger connected on a free throw. The Lions in that span had scored only seven points, five from the foul line, and led 21-13.
Emily Halloran had a layup with 18 seconds left to trim Bryn Athyn's advantage to 22-15 at the break.
- Following Bryn Athyn taking a double-digit lead (26-15) with 7:38 in the third quarter, Immaculata outscored Bryn Athyn, 9-0, as Ayoub chipped in six points during the run to tie the game at 26-all with 3:02 to play. The contest swung back-and-forth until the midway point in the fourth quarter. Tied 37-37 with 6:09 left in the contest, a three-point play from Kearney and a layup from Kelly gave the Mighty Macs a 42-37 lead. After the Lions cut it to three (42-39), Ayoub scored the next six points for Immaculata to put the game away.

- Immaculata shot just 26.9 percent from the field but were 12 of 31 (.387) during the second half. The Mighty Macs were impressive at the line going 14-for-19 (.737).
- Immaculata committed just 15 turnovers as compared to 35 turnovers for Bryn Athyn.
