Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Neumann, 92-79

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University men's basketball had its modest two-game winning streak ended Wednesday night inside Alumnae Hall by 17th-ranked Neumann University, 92-79, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Roy Ferrell Jr. led four Mighty Mac (6-8, 4-3 CSAC) players scoring in double figures. Ferrell Jr. had a game-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds. Ferrell Jr. was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Jordan Ambrose poured in 19 points, including a 4-for-7 effort from three-point, and had four rebounds and two assists. Eric Pittman Jr. added 18 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Mike Piekarski finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Morgan Bailey also grabbed five rebounds to lead the team alongside Ferrell Jr. and Piekarski.
 
It was raining three's as both teams hit 12 three-pointers for the contest. Immaculata finished 12-for-28 (42.9 percent), while Neumann connected on 12 of 23 attempts (52.2 percent). Immaculata finished the contest shooting 43.3 percent (29-67) from the field. Neumann also was hot from the field at 46.8 percent (37-79). 
 
The first half was fast-paced and intense as the teams were highly competitive. Neumann (13-1, 7-0 CSAC) got out to a 6-0 lead on Immaculata. The Mighty Macs followed with seven-straight points as Piekarski put up a three followed by two layups from Pittman Jr. to give Immaculata its only lead of the night, 7-6, with 16:47 to play in the first half. Pittman Jr. tied the contest at 12-12 with 14:04 to play with a three-pointer, but the Knights pushed their lead back to six. The Mighty Macs kept it close with two three-pointers from Ferrell Jr. that made it a two-point Neumann lead (20-18) with 12 minutes to play. The Knights built a seven-point edge (33-26) with 4:48 remaining in the half when Ferrell Jr. added four points and Piekarski two to make it a one-point contest (33-32) with 2:39 left before intermission. Neumann eventually took an eight-point lead into halftime after knocking down two three's during the final minute of play.
 
Neumann had taken a double-digit lead (45-35) with 18:44 to play in the contest, and pushed its advantage to 21 (56-35) by the 16:35 mark of the half. The Knights led by as many as 27 (71-44) with 11:03 to play before the Mighty Macs began to chip away. Ambrose scored back-to-back three-pointers for the Mighty Macs making it 71-50 just inside 10 minutes left. Ferrell Jr. connected on a three-ball with 1:48 to go cutting Immaculata's deficit to 14 (88-74), but Neumann just wouldn't leave the door open for the Mighty Macs to climb back in the game. The game ended with another three from Ferrell Jr. to make it a 13-point contest, 92-79.

Immaculata travels to Clarks Summit at 3 p.m. Saturday in conference play.
