HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Immaculata softball split its doubleheader with Centenary Saturday afternoon as the visiting Mighty Macs came back to win game two, 13-4, in six innings. The Cyclones took game one in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) twinbill, 10-2, in five innings.
After dropping the opener, Immaculata came back to score in every inning except the first, for the 13-4 win. The Mighty Macs started with two runs in the second as they got two baserunners on infield errors. Immaculata loaded the bases following
Jessica Bormann's single, and
Kelsey Collevechio had a two-RBI single into center field to plate
Lauren Penn and
Paige Hughes.
Immaculata added one run in the third after it loaded the bases once again.
Annemarie Bartow walked,
Caitlin Brasier doubled, and
Lauren Penn singles to set up the RBI situation for
Meghan Kugler.
The Mighty Macs had a four-run fourth inning as they had six hits all with two outs. Singles by Ejk and Bartow brought Brasier to the plate, where she hit a three-run home run over the center field fence. Penn and Kugler followed with singles, and Hughes' single into center score Penn for a 7-0 IU lead.
Following two more runs in the top of the fifth as Bartow hit a two-run homer, Centenary responded with four runs in its half of the fifth cutting the Mighty Macs' lead to 9-4.
The Mighty Macs came back with four runs of their own in the sixth, and held the Cyclones score to cut the game to six innings. Penn doubled to lead off the sixth, and Kugler and Hughes followed with singles, while Penn scored. Collevechio had a one-out RBI-single, and
Kathleen Devaney had a sacrifice fly, before Ejk's single scored the 13th run for Immaculata.
Bormann pitched all six innings allowing nine hits and four runs for the win. She struck out one and did not walk anyone.
In game one, Immaculata scored one run in the first as Ejk doubled to score Collevechio. The Mighty Macs scored their other run in the fifth once again by Collecechio as she doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a wild pitch.
Centenary scored in every inning of the opener.
Braiser took the loss in the circle as she lasted 3.2 innings, allowing 12 hits, nine runs and four strikeouts.
Becca Reifer came on and tossed 0.1 innings, giving up two hits, one runs and one walk.
Penn was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in one game played. Bartow combined to go 5-for-7 with one walk, three runs scored and two RBIs. Kugler was 4-for-6 with one RBI, and Collevechio was 4-for-8 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Hughes and Ejk each had three hits and two RBIs.
Immaculata hosts Neumann at the IU Softball Field Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
