Softball Falls In Pair At Haverford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Immculata softball was back in action Tuesday afternoon traveling to Haverford for a pair of non-conference games. The visiting Mighty Macs dropped the opener, 2-0, and then fell in the nightcap, 11-7.

In the second game, Haverford (7-7) scored three runs in the second and four in the fourth for a 7-0 lead. However, Immaculata (1-11) was able to tie the game in the top of the fifth after it produced seven runs.

Meghan Kugler walked to lead off the inning, and Madison Hendershott followed as she reached on an error. Becca Reifer then loaded the bases up as she had a perfect bunt single. Lauren Penn then hit a RBI single up the middle to score the first Mighty Mac run. Angelina Welch drew a walk to score Hendershott, and keep the bases full.

Melissa Ejk then drove in a run with her single to the pitcher, and Annemarie Bartow had a fielder's choice and RBI as Penn scored the fourth run of the inning. Ejk and Bartow then scored off a fielding error that allowed Kugler to reach, and Hendershott singled to left center to plate the seventh and final run for Immaculata as Caitlyn Hudock came around to score.

The Fords responded quickly though with four runs in their half of the fifth, and Immaculata was retired in the sixth and seventh with only one base runner.

Ejk and Penn both collected two hits in the game. Immaculata had nine hits as a team.

Kugler started the game in the circle and went the first three innings. She allowed seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits and walked one. Jessica Bormann came on in relief for the final three innings, and she gave up three hits and four runs, all unearned.

Haverford got on the board in game one with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Fords were able to score both runs with two outs after loading the bases earlier in the inning.

The Mighty Macs started the sixth with walks by both Kelsey Collevechio and Ejk, but the runners were stranded at second and third.

Caitlin Brasier started the game and pitched six innings. She allowed three hits, one walk and struck out two, while both runs by Haverford were unearned.

Immaculata heads to Rosemont in CSAC play tomorrow beginning at 5 p.m.
