Men's Basketball Wins 77-57 Over Keystone

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's basketball avenged an early-season Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss Wednesday night as the Mighty Macs defeated the Keystone Giants, 77-57, inside Alumnae Hall.

The win betters the playoff chances for the Mighty Macs (9-13, 8-7 CSAC), who moved into a tie for fifth place in the league standings with Centenary. Keystone drops to 4-18, 4-11 CSAC.

Roy Ferrell Jr. led Immaculata with 22 points on a 9-for-17 effort from the field, while adding three steals and four rebounds. Matt Simon chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, and Mike Sturdivant Jr. finished with 11 points and three steals. Mike Piekarski added nine points and a team-best nine rebounds. Rodney Duncan had eight points and five rebounds, while Tony Calamaro had five points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Following three lead changes and three tied scores during the first 10:51 of the contest, Immaculata went on a 17-4 run to put the Mighty Macs ahead, 34-21, with 4:16 to play in the opening half. Ferrell Jr. had seven points and Simon had five points to power the spurt. Keystone was able to cut its deficit back to six (38-32) at halftime.

Immaculata continued to pad its lead during the second half before eventually winning by its largest margin of the contest. After the Giants cut the Mighty Macs lead to 13 (68-55) with just under three minutes to play and called a timeout, Immaculata deflated any Keystone chances with a three Duncan, a block by Calamaro and later a dunk from Ferrell Jr.

The Mighty Macs were able to make 18 of 22 free throws, winning the game at the line. Keystone was just 6-for-9 from the charity stripe.

Immaculata heads to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, Feb. 13, for a 2 p.m. meeting against the Griffins.
