Box Score
RADNOR, Pa.- Immaculata freshman
Jordan Ambrose set a new school freshman scoring record in his first career start with 31 points, but it wasn't enough as the Mighty Macs (3-4, 2-1 CSAC) were unable to keep pace with Cabrini (5-2, 3-0 CSAC) in a 97-74 defeat, their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss of the season. Ambrose was outstanding as he was 10-for-20 from the field, 5-of-10 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 at the line.
Sophomore
Cordell Lord had a solid game with 10 points and four assists.
For the game, IU was 10-for-22 from beyond the arc, which allowed them to race out to an early lead, but the Cavaliers took over late in the first half and never looked back.
The Mighty Macs led for much of the early part of the game, including right out of the gates on a triple by sophomore
Mike Piekarski (7 points, 5 rebounds) on the first possession, but the game was tied at 8-8 four minutes in.
IU then went on a quick 6-0 spurt behind six straight by Ambrose to go up 14-8 just a minute later. Cabrini reduced the Macs' lead to 14-11, but seven straight by sophomore
Morgan Bailey, Ambrose, and Piekarski swelled the lead to 21-11 with 12:10 to go before the break. The lead would be the biggest for the Macs in the game.
Cabrini then ripped off 10 straight to tie the game at 21-21 with nine minutes before halftime. The Macs would have two-point leads on two more occasions, but the Cavaliers took a 25-23 IU lead and scored eight straight to go up 31-25 just seven minutes before halftime.
The Macs showed fight again as junior
Will Chapman hit a free throw before an Ambrose layup and a triple by Lord to tie the game at 31-31. The game would stay close to the final two minutes of the half, but the Cavaliers scored the final eight points of the first half to take a 48-38 advantage to the locker room.
Cabrini squashed any chance of an IU comeback as they unloaded a 17-1 run in the opening 5:46 to take a commanding 26-point lead at 65-39. The Macs would get their closest with their final basket in a 97-74 loss.
The Macs will go back to non-conference play on Saturday when they host McDaniel at 3 p.m.
