IMMACULATA, Pa. – Widener University came into Alumnae Hall Tuesday night and handed Immaculata University men's basketball an 84-77 setback on its home court.

Immaculata drops to 1-3 overall this season while Widener improved to 2-1.

Matt Simon was one shy of his career best with 26 points on 9-for-18 from the field and 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. Simon also had six rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Mighty Macs.
Roy Ferrell Jr. poured in 19 points and eight rebounds to go along with two assists.

Mike Piekarski and
James Willis each added eight points. Piekarski also had seven rebounds and a team-best seven assists.
Michael Griffin III grabbed five boards for Immaculata.

The first half ended with the score tied for the fifth time in the opening 20 minutes of play at 38-all. The two squads went back and forth for most of the opening half as neither team could bolster more than a four-point edge. Widener finally was able to hold an advantage with a 6-0 run that put the Pride ahead, 27-22, with 7:19 to go in the half.

Widener maintained the lead until two free throw by
Matt Krewson got Immaculata within two (35-33) with 2:57 to go, and Krewson then gave the Mighty Macs the lead (36-35) with 2:32 to play with a three-point basket.

Immaculata took what would end up being its final lead of the night (41-40) with 18:36 to go in the second half as Ferrell Jr. had a three-pointer. Widener went on a 13-3 spurt that took the game to the 14:05 mark as it held Immaculata to just three free throws during the four-minute span.

The Pride would lead by their largest margin of the game (65-53) with 8:57 to play. However, the Mighty Macs quickly got back in the game with a 10-1 run of their own to make it a three-point contest, 66-63, with 6:33 left.

Widener pushed its lead to as many as nine (74-65) but Immaculata never came any closer than the three minutes during the final six minutes.

Immaculata finished 27 of 67 (.403) from the field and 9-for-34 (.265) from three-point. The Mighty Macs were also 14 of 22 (.636) at the line. Widener shot 50.0 percent from the field (33-66) and 5-for-14 (.357) from long range. The Pride were 13 for 19 from the charity stripe.

Immaculata travels to Keystone Wednesday night, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
