Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University volleyball stayed undefeated in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action as it defeated Neumann University, 3-1, inside Alumnae Hall Wednesday night. The Mighty Macs grabbed the match with scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-23 and 25-18.
Immaculata (7-4, 3-0 CSAC) is one of four teams currently perfect in league play. Neumann slips to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the CSAC with the loss.
Gabrielle Guerrera led the Mighty Macs with a match-best 15 kills.
Shelby Belk amassed 10 kills and had two solo blocks.
Arden Vizzard and
Tess Kieffer each added six kills.
Maranda Jones handed out 35 assists and was one dig shy of a double-double. She went over the 1,000-assist mark for her career, and has 1,032 assists following tonight's match.
Marissa Casella led a strong Immaculata block with six total blocks (two solo, four assisted).
Emily Swank led four Mighty Macs who made double-digit digs with 18.
Molly Truitt recorded 14 digs, and
Colleen Martin and
Allie Leonard each had 12.
The first set was even in the beginning and the score was tied at 13-all. Immaculata used a Neumann service error to score its 14th point, and the Mighty Macs got a roll from there to go up 19-13. Guerrera served up two aces, and Casella had two assisted blocks with Vizzard and Kieffer during the rally.
Neumann trailed 21-14 when the Knights strung together five-straight points to narrow the margin to 21-19. Neumann got within one point at 22-21 and 23-22, but Immaculata closed the first set with a Knights service error and a kill by Guerrera.
Immaculata came out in the second set and jumped in front, 9-1. Neumann clawed its way back with three- and four-point runs while limited Immaculata. Neumann eventually got its deficit to 17-16 to get right back in the set.
Immaculata maintained the lead, and led 22-19. However, five consecutive points won by the Knights gave them their first advantage of the set (24-22) to get to set-point. Immaculata tied the score at 24-24, but Neumann won the final two points.
The Mighty Macs trailed just once (10-9) in the third set, despite the fact that it was even most of the way. Immaculata got ahead, 19-13, but Neumann responded and tied the set at 21-all. The score was still tied at 22-22 when the Mighty Macs three of the last four points for the 25-23 win in the third set.
Immaculata controlled most of the final set, and never let Neumann take a lead. The Knights got to within four (22-18), but the Mighty Macs sealed the match with the final three points, and Truitt's ace was the deciding point.
Immaculata heads to Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday, Oct. 6, for a 7 p.m. match with the Griffins.
