IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball fought hard in each set against the Marywood University Pacers on Thursday evening, but the Pacers swept the Mighty Macs to advance to the Atlantic East Conference Finals.
The Mighty Macs finish with an 11-17 record. They were 4-3 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYWOOD
- The Pacers ripped off seven of the first eight points to start the match. Although Mia Esposito saw a kill a few moments later, Marywood went up 13-2. A 5-1 run put Immaculata back within 12 points. Marywood had multiple attack errors. However, the Pacers took the set 25-13.
- Immaculata won the first two points of set two before the Pacers grabbed the next five. The Mighty Macs countered a Marywood 3-0 run with a 3-0 run of their own, thanks to consecutive kills from Damani Myers. The Mighty Macs stayed close to the Pacers due to some home team errors. Despite an Antonia Antolini kill to cut the deficit to four, a 7-1 outburst from Marywood gave the Pacers a 25-15 win.
- Two Marywood setting errors, and kills from Myers and Angelica Santini Bulerin, tied the third set 4-4. Even with the score at 5-5 two rallies later, eight unanswered Pacers points put them in the lead for good. Marywood was victorious in set three 25-13, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Myers had a team-high six kills. She also led with nine digs.
- Santini Bulerin dished out 13 assists.
- Eliana Szatkowski was responsible for two assisted blocks.
