Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's basketball had two players score in double figures as the Mighty Macs improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with its 69-56 victory at home against Summit on Saturday afternoon.
Roy Ferrell Jr. paced the Mighty Macs with 22 points, including a 6-for-6 effort from the charity stripe. Ferrell Jr. also had four rebounds and two blocks.
Matt Simon produced 16 points behind four 3-pointers and added three steals.
Cordell Lord finished with eight points, and
Tony Calamaro chipped in six points and five rebounds.
Mike Piekarski also grabbed five rebounds to go along with five points, two assists and three steals.
Ron Melton dished out a team-high four assists, while
Rodney Duncan handed out three assists.
Summit (1-7, 1-2 CSAC) scored on the game's opening possession but Immaculata responded with a three by Duncan to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Mighty Macs built a 10-point lead (17-7) with 12:25 to play in the first. However, just 2:23 later, the Defenders were only down by two, 19-17, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half as they outscored the Mighty Macs, 10-2.
Immaculata built its lead back to nine (32-23) with 5:21 left in the half, but the Mighty Macs did not score the rest of the half as they only held a 32-30 advantage at the break.
It remained a close game as the Mighty Macs only held a two-point edge (39-37) with 13:59 to go before Immaculata began to pull away. Immaculata went on a 12-2 spurt that put the Mighty Macs out front, 51-39, with 9:12 to play. The closest the Defenders would come the rest of the way was within nine.
Immaculata had its best effort from the free throw line this season as the Mighty Macs buried 19-for-24 (.792). Immaculata also made a season-high six blocked shots.
The Mighty Macs play the third game of a four-game home swing next Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. against Rutgers-Camden.
