Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- Looking to build off of two consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victories in the past 10 days, the Immaculata men's basketball team hosted Rutgers-Camden (2-6) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall, but the Mighty Macs (2-4) struggled shooting the ball and fell to the Scarlet Raptors, 57-50.
Â
For the game, the Macs were 20-for-72 (27.8%) from the field, 7-for-30 (23.3%) from beyond the arc, and 3-for-8 (37.5%) from the free throw line as they were unable to establish any sort of rhythm offensively. The Mighty Macs also lost the battle on the glass, 61-30.
Â
Senior
Rodney Duncan led the way with 14 points, and he was joined in double figures by junior
Roy Ferrell Jr. (13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals) and freshman
Mike Piekarski (11 points, 4 steals).
Â
The Mighty Macs started well, scoring seven of the first 10 points of the game to take a 7-3 lead less than four minutes in on a pair of field goals by Piekarski and a triple by Duncan. The lead would grow as large as five at 10-5 after a three by Ferrell Jr., but the Scarlet Raptors went on a 7-2 spurt to take their first lead of the day.
Â
The lead would go back and forth until the game was tied 18-18 with 10 to go in the first half. Rutgers-Camden then went on a 10-2 run to give them the largest lead of the game for either team at 28-20 with 5:12 remaining before the break.
Â
IU would close the period on a little 6-1 spurt and trailed 29-26 going into the half.
Â
After halftime, the Mighty Macs came out on fire. Ferrell Jr. hit a three in the first possession and Duncan followed with one of his own to give IU a 32-29 lead. Following a Rutgers-Camden lay-up, senior
Tony Calamaro hit a fast break lay-up. The Scarlet Raptors responded with a bucket, but Duncan stepped up and hit a three, stole the inbounds pass, and fed Piekarski for another bucket to force a timeout with IU leading 39-33, their largest of the game.
Â
The Macs then went cold and didn't score again until the 12:51 mark when Ferrell Jr. hit a fastbreak lay-up to keep IU in front, 41-39.
Â
With the game tied at 42-42 with 8:16 remaining, Ferrell Jr. hit a lay-up and freshman
Jimmy Markham tipped in an offensive rebound to get the lead back to four at 46-42, but from there, IU hit just 2-of-13 attempts down the stretch.
Â
The Scarlet Raptors took advantage of that and scored seven straight to go up 49-46 before a Ferrell Jr. jumper cut the deficit to 49-48 with 2:43 remaining.
Â
From there, Rutgers-Camden salted the game away at the free throw line with the remaining eight points coming from the line.
Â
The Macs will close out their four game home stand this Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. when they host Arcadia at Alumnae Hall.
