Box Score Photo GalleryIMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's volleyball squad is bound for the Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinals for the second-straight year as the fourth-seeded Mighty Macs were able to defeat fifth-seeded Marywood University, 3-1, on Tuesday night inside Alumnae Hall in the CSAC quarterfinals.

The Mighty Macs (14-7) had to battle back for the win after the Pacers (8-17) turned the pressure on in the third and fourth sets. Immaculata finally took the match with scores 25-11, 25-8, 21-25 and 25-23.

Gabrielle Guerrera and
Shelby Belk both recorded career bests in kills. Guerrera topped the squad with 19 kills, while Belk made 16 kills and added two service aces and two blocks.
Arden Vizzard added eight kills to her team-best 19 digs, and she had two aces.

Maranda Jones made 38 assists and nine digs.
Molly Truitt registered 17 digs and four assists.
Allie Leonard came up with 15 digs, and
Colleen Martin made 11 digs.

The Mighty Macs cruised during the first two sets against the Pacers largely due to their hitting. Immaculata made just four hitting errors in the opening two sets as it posted a .407 hitting percentage in the first set and then followed up with a .476 average in the second.

Marywood scored the first four points of the third set to set the tone early and give the Pacers some momentum. Immaculata cut the score to 6-5, but Marywood went on to score six of the next seven points for a 12-6 lead. The two squads traded points as the Pacers maintained a six-point edge (16-10) before the Mighty Macs scored four-straight points. Immaculata eventually got within one (17-16), but that was as close as it got the rest of the third.

The fourth set was a nail biter as the two teams battled. Marywood held the early advantage, but by no more than four points. The Pacers led 11-8 when the Mighty Macs went on a four-point run for their first lead of the set (12-11). The score was tied twice before Immaculata took a three-point edge, 19-16. Marywood won the next point on a kill from Maddie Lavery, and the Pacers have a service ace and two more kills to grab the lead back from the Mighty Macs at 20-19.

Following an Immaculata timeout, the Mighty Macs tied the score at 20-all but the Pacers scored two more points forcing another IU timeout. Two kills from Belk tied the set at 22-22 before Marywood won the 23rd point. Guerrera then tied the score at 23-all and set the Macs up for match points with two kills. Belk then closed out the match with a service ace.

Immaculata will play either top-seeded Cabrini or second-seeded Neumann on Thursday evening, Nov. 5, in a CSAC semifinal. The Mighty Macs must wait to see who wins the other quarterfinal match between third-seeded Keystone and sixth-seeded Notre Dame to determine their opponent.
