Macs Pick Up A Big Win Over Marywood, 7-2

BOX SCORE

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
After clinching a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason berth for the third consecutive season due to losses by Cedar Crest and Notre Dame, the Immaculata women's tennis team (10-3, 7-2 CSAC) sought to improve their seeding when they hosted Marywood (10-3, 8-1 CSAC) on Friday afternoon at the Immaculata Tennis Courts, and the Mighty Macs delivered and picked up a big 7-2 victory on their home court.

The Mighty Macs will close out their regular season tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day against Cairn, and with a win and a Marywood loss, the Macs could improve to the No. 2 seed in the CSAC postseason tournament.

Immaculata got started very quickly by winning all three doubles matches.  In the first position, junior Lauren Degnan and sophomore Kelly Gross won easily, 8-2, and in the third spot, junior Jenna Fratterelli and freshman Caitlin Savage had an 8-4 triumph.  In the second position, junior Annaliese Kambouroglos and senior Kara Trowbridge came from behind and stole an 8-6 win.

In singles, the Mighty Macs would put the match away and give themselves the big victory over the Pacers.  Three of the four IU singles wins came in third set tie breaks.

Gross continued her near flawless singles play this season as she remained unbeaten in CSAC play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the sixth position.  Trowbridge took her first singles loss of the season in a closely played match, 6-3, 6-4.

Degnan clinched the victory in the match for IU with a three-set triumph in the first spot.  After dropping the first set 4-6, Degnan stormed back with 6-2 wins in both the second and third set for the fifth point of the match for IU.

Junior Nicole Burley trailed 5-2 in the first set, but won five straight games to claim the first set 7-5, and followed that with a 6-1 win in the second set of second singles to close out her opponent.  In the fourth spot, Kambouroglos split the first two sets 3-6, 6-3, and finished off Immaculata's 7-2 win with a 10-4 advantage in the tiebreak.
