Box Score ROSEMONT, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team met with Rosemont for the second time this season as they looked to sweep the series with the Ravens after an earlier victory, but the Mighty Macs (9-9, 7-4 CSAC) late rally came up short as they fell to Rosemont (10-8, 8-3 CSAC) by a score of 85-81. With the loss, the Mighty Macs dropped back into a three-way tie for second place with Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy while Rosemont claimed sole possession of first place.
For the second consecutive game, junior
Rodney Duncan (4 assists) was the top scorer for IU with 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. Sophomore
Matt Simon hit five three pointers for 15 points and junior
Ron Melton also had 15 off the bench along with seven boards. Senior
Mamadou Diakite had 13 points (5-for-6 FG) and seven boards.
The Mighty Macs knocked down 10 three-pointers and shot 25-for-52 (48.1%) from the field, but Rosemont shot 62.5% (25-for-40) from the field and took 42 free throws on the night.
Immaculata never led the entire game and Rosemont had their lead all the way up to 18 points with 9:30 to go at 63-45 when the Mighty Macs started their rally. Over the next 4:12, IU outscored Rosemont 15-3 to slice the deficit to six points.
Diakite started the run with a lay-up and following free throws by Rosemont, sophomore
Roy Ferrell Jr. hit a three-pointer. After a Rosemont free throw, the Mighty Macs scored the next 10 points to cap the spurt. Diakite and Duncan converted lay-ups before a three by Simon and a free throw from Melton. Diakite then finished off the run with a dunk, but he then fouled out of the game which halted the Mighty Mac run with the score 66-60.
The Ravens scored the next seven points to get their lead back up to 73-60, but IU didn't give in.
The Mighty Macs responded with seven straight of their own with a three from Melton and lay-ups by
Tony Calamaro and
Joshua Smith, but Dom Scafidi got free breaking the press and laid one in to keep Rosemont in front 75-67.
Rosemont would continue to add on at the free throw line, but an offensive rebound put back with 1:16 to go by Melton kept Immaculata in it at 78-74.
Immaculata cut into the deficit again after the teams traded free throws with a three-pointer by Simon with 27 seconds remaining that made it 81-79. Rosemont made two free throws and Immaculata's next two threes went begging as the Ravens held on 85-81.
Rosemont led wire-to-wire and it was tied just three times in the first half as the Ravens took a 40-33 lead to the locker room.
Immaculata will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Baptist Bible at Alumnae Hall at 1 p.m.
