Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - Immaculata University was eliminated from the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Tournament Friday afternoon with an extra-inning 5-4 loss to Cabrini College.
In the second game of the day for both teams, Immaculata and Cabrini played a tight game from the start as neither team was ready to go home. After seven innings the teams were tied at 4-4 and headed to extra innings.
Cabrini started the eighth inning with a walk by Lea Enoch. Enoch advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and she later scored as Lindsay Savar hit a RBI single to center field for the go-ahead run.
Immaculata got a two-out walk by Kelly in the bottom of the eighth but were not able to score.
The Cavaliers and Mighty Macs matched one another with runs in the first and second innings.
After Cabrini scored two runs in the first,
Samantha Strickland had a singled to right center that brought
Meghan Kugler and
Liz Biddle across the plate for the 2-2 tie.
The Cavaliers plated one run in the second, and the Mighty Macs scored one run in their half of the inning. Immaculata got three-straight hits as
Rachel Kelly doubled,
Jessica DeCastro singled and then Kugler singled to score Kelly.
Immaculata took its first lead in the third as
Danielle Palmisano singled,
Brittany Merkle doubled and
Jenny Barnholt delivered a RBI single for the 4-3 edge.
The Mighty Macs maintained the 4-3 lead until the top of the sixth as Cabrini scored the tying run to send the game into extras.
DeCastro, Kugler, Strickland and Palmisano all had two hits each as the Mighty Macs scattered 11 hits in the game.
Meagan Fitzgerald tossed all eight innings for the Mighty Macs giving up five runs, all earned, on 12 hits. She struck out six and walked three batters.
Immaculata ends the 2014 season with a 24-11 overall record.
