Box Score 2 CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball team took both ends of its doubleheader from host Baptist Bible College Wednesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action as the Mighty Macs won the opener, 11-1, and took game two, 15-0.
Caitlyn Hudock,
Brittany Merkle and
Danielle Palmisano each had four hits during the two games. Hudock had five RBI while
Jessica DeCastro produced four runs.
Baptist Bible scored first in the opener getting one run in the second inning after a lead-off double.
Immaculata's bats finally came alive in the fourth inning. Using three hits and three Baptist Bible errors, the Mighty Macs were able to score five runs to grab the 5-1 lead. Merkle tripled to center, which scored
Angelina Welch, who was on to run for
Samantha Strickland, who had reached on an error.
Jenny Barnholt then hit a RBI-single up the middle that Merkle was able to score on.
Christiana Donofry followed with a single, and both Barnholt and Donofry advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Barnholt came in to score as
Rachel Kelly reached base on an error. Immaculata then used a double-steal to score its fourth run as Donofry stole home while Kelly took second. Kelly ended up at third on a passed ball, and then scored as
Meghan Kugler got on base after an error.
Immaculata still led 5-1 heading into the sixth inning when the Mighty Macs added one run.
Jessica DeCastro walked and stole second. Hudock doubled to left-center which easily scored DeCastro.
The Mighty Macs put five more runs on the scoreboard in the seventh as the first six hitters of the inning all reached base. Palmisano singled through the left side to start things off for Immaculata and Merkle then walked. Barnholt reached on an error to load the bases, and Donofry walked to bring in the first run. Kelly then earned a walk to score the second IU run of the inning. DeCastro followed with a RBI-single to center, and Hudock drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly to right.
Meagan Fitzgerald (8-2) tossed just a two-hitter as Baptist Bible's only run was unearned. She struck out seven.
DeCastro and Palmisano each had two hits during the first game, and Kelly, DeCastro and Hudock all drove in two runs.
It only took the Mighty Macs five innings to win the nightcap, 15-0, as they scored one run in the first, before adding four in the second and fourth innings and six more in the fifth.
After a lead-off walk by Kelly, DeCastro bunted Kelly to second, and Kugler singled to have runners at the corners.
Liz Biddle then grounded out but Kelly was able to score on the play.
The Mighty Macs' four runs in the second inning came on three hits. Palmisano doubled to score Merkle, and Kelly doubled later in the inning to score Palmisano. The final two runs scored on an error.
Immaculata put together six hits in the fourth to score all its runs with two outs. Kugler singled and stole second when the Mighty Macs' started their two-out damage. Strickland singled home Kugler, and Merkle then hit a RBI single. Palmisano singled down the left field line as Merkle advanced to second. Hudock then drove the ball into left field to score Merkle, and Barnholt followed with a ball into right field that allowed Palmisano to score.
Immaculata sealed up the game with its six runs in the fifth as Kugler, Strickland, Merkle and Ejk all singled while Hudock had a two-RBI double.
Palmisano (3-3) got the shutout win in the circle as she gave up just three hits while striking out six.
Kugler, Merkle and Hudock all went 3-for-4 in game two, and Hudock had three RBI. Strickland and Palmisano both had two hits, and DeCastro, Strickland and Barnholt produced two RBI.
Immaculata hosts Cairn on Friday at the IU Softball Field beginning at 3 p.m.
