Softball Takes Two From Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball squad swept the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader with Rosemont College Saturday afternoon winning the opener, 9-4, and taking game two, 11-3, in six innings.
 
Immaculata combined for seven runs during the first three innings and never trailed as the Mighty Macs won the opener, 9-4, against the Ravens. After Rosemont got within three runs (7-4) in the bottom of the fifth, Immaculata added one run in each the sixth and innings to seal up the win.
 
Rachel Kelly was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and three runs scored and Jenny Barnholt went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Immaculata in the opener. Samantha Strickland also had a multi-hit game as she was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald tossed a complete game allowing just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight.
 
In the nightcap, Immaculata put up two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third to lead 5-0. Rosemont got one run back in the third. However, the Mighty Macs exploded for six runs in the top of the six and all the Ravens could muster in the bottom half of the inning was two runs.
 
Kelly, Meghan Kugler, Liz Biddle, Danielle Palmisano and Barnholt all had two hits in the second game. Kelly and Biddle each recorded two RBI.
 
Palmisano went all six innings in the second game. She allowed three runs on nine hits and totaled six strikeouts.
 
Immaculata hosts Keystone College at the IU Softball Field tomorrow afternoon with first pitch at 1 p.m.
