Box Score 2 IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball team set a new program record for most wins in a season (23) and most wins in the conference (19) as it split its regular-season finale with Neumann University on Saturday. After the visiting Knights took game one, 9-1, Immaculata was able to rally in game two for the 6-5 win.
Trailing 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Immaculata's first four batters all reached base.
Samantha Strickland singled followed by a walk to
Danielle Palmisano.
Brittany Merkle than singled to load the bases, and
Caitlyn Hudock drew a walk to score the first Mighty Mac run making it 5-4.
Jenny Barnholt was out on a ground ball to second, but the tying run came across the plate.
Melissa Ejk then hit a fly ball to left field that was deep enough for Merkle to score for the go-ahead run.
After Neumann (23-9, 19-3 CSAC) scored four runs in the second, Immaculata cut its deficit to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Strickland had a RBI single that scored
Meghan Kugler. Merkle doubled to score
Liz Biddle, who had doubled, and Strickland.
Strickland and Merkle each were 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
Palmisano tossed all seven innings getting the win. She allowed nine hits, five runs, all earned and struck out one.
Neumann started the opener with two runs in the first and the Knights added runs during the final four innings.
Immaculata's (23-9, 19-3 CSAC) lone run of game one came in the fifth inning as Merkle hit a solo home run.
Neumann's Lauren Wilkie limited the Mighty Macs to just two hits during the game. Kugler had Immaculata's other hit of the game.
Meagan Fitzgerald gave up 15 hits and seven earned runs in the loss.
Immaculata enters next week's CSAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Gwynedd Mercy in a first round game.
