Softball Splits Final Non-Conference Action With Ursinus

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University played its final non-conference games of the regular season Tuesday afternoon splitting action with Ursinus College. The Mighty Macs took the opener, 3-2, before falling in the nightcap to the Bears, 15-3.
 
The opener was a close affair as Ursinus scored one run in the top of third inning and Immaculata answered in its half of the inning.
 
The Mighty Macs (20-8) loaded the bases to begin the inning but then got two outs. Liz Biddle then walked to bring home Christiana Donofry to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The teams played a scoreless game during the next two innings until Ursinus broke through in the six for one run. Immaculata then came back once again and plated two runs to take the lead, 3-2.
 
Danielle Palmisano singled and later scored as Brittany Merkle reached on an error. Jenny Barnholt then hit a RBI single to bring home Merkle for the game-winning run.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald picked up her 12th win the season as she allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out four batters.
 
Barnholt led the team in the opener going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
 
In the second game, Ursinus (8-22) scored in each of the first three innings. The Bears plated four runs in the first, six in the second and five more in the third.
 
Immaculata got its three runs in the bottom of the first as Rachel Kelly walked, Meghan Kugler was hit by a pitch and Biddle hit a three-run home run.
 
Caitlyn Hudock had two hits in the second game to lead the Mighty Macs.
 
Danielle Palmisano started and lasted two innings getting the loss as she allowed 10 runs, seven earned, on nine hits. Kugler pitched one inning giving up four hits and five runs, all unearned. Samantha Strickland came in for the final two innings and gave up just two hits, no runs and struck out two.
 
Immaculata travels to Centenary on Friday at 3 p.m.
