Immaculata Takes Both Games From Notre Dame

BALTIMORE – Immaculata University's softball team claimed two decisive five-inning victories against Notre Dame of Maryland University Wednesday afternoon, 17-2 and 24-2, to sweep the Gators in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Immaculata improves its record to 19-7 overall and 16-2 in the CSAC. Notre Dame drops to 7-11, 3-11 CSAC.
 
Meghan Kugler led the way for the Mighty Macs going 5-for-7 with five RBIs and five runs scored in the two games. Rachel Kelly was 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Danielle Palmisano was 4-for-9 with six RBIs and five runs scored. Melissa Eck, Liz Biddle and Jenny Barnholt all finished with three hits. Biddle had five RBIs, Brittany Merkle drove in four runs, and Ejk, Barnholt, Samantha Strickland and Christiana Donofry had three RBIs each.
 
In the opener, Immaculata got the game started with seven runs in the first inning. The Mighty Macs added four runs in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth for the 17-0 lead. Notre Dame managed single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
 
Biddle hit a three-run home run in the first as part of the Mighty Macs' seven runs.
 
Kelly, Biddle, Palmisano and Ejk all had two hits during the opener.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald got the win in the circle as she allowed one earned run off four hits. She struck out a season-high 11 batters.
 
The Mighty Macs started the nightcap with another seven-run inning. Immaculata scored in every inning, adding five runs in each the second and third, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Notre Dame pushed across one run in the first inning and again in the fifth.
 
Immaculata managed 20 hits during game two, led by four from Kugler. Barnholt had three hits, and Kelly, Allie Leonard, Palmisano and Merkle all recorded two hits.
 
Palmisano pitched a complete game to get the win in game two. She allowed two runs on six hits and recorded four strikeouts.
 
Immaculata will be at home on April 22 hosting Ursinus in non-conference action beginning at 3 p.m.
