Softball Defeats No. 21 Coe To Split Tuesday's Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Immaculata University's softball team earned a split on Tuesday evening as the Mighty Macs defeated 21st-ranked Coe College, 9-2, in their second game of the night. Immaculata began action on Tuesday with a 4-0 loss to College of Saint Benedict.

In the nightcap, Coe (5-1) struck first with the early scoring opportunity for a 1-0 led after one inning of play.

Over the next three innings Immaculata's offense exploded for six runs, including three runs on a home run in the fourth, giving the Mighty Macs a 6-2 lead after four innings. Immaculata would go on to score three more runs, winning 9-2.

In the opener opposite Saint Benedict, the Blazers scored early as the game's leadoff hitter came around to score for a 1-0 lead. Saint Benedict added two more runs in the second inning, and later tacked on one more run in the fourth.
 
The Mighty Macs threatened in both the third and fourth innings as they got two runners on base during each inning. However, in the fourth, Immaculata left the runners stranded at second and third.
 
Kathleen Devaney led the Mighty Macs with two hits.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald pitched six innings, allowing five hits and striking out four.

Immaculata (2-2) will play its final two games of its spring trip on Wednesday against Methodist at 3 p.m. and Saint Vincent at 5 p.m.
