IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball squad began the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) portion of its schedule Friday afternoon picking up a sweep against Cedar Crest College in what was also the Mighty Macs' home opener. Immaculata scored early and often in the opener winning 18-0 in five innings. The nightcap was called after five and a half innings due to darkness with Immaculata claiming the 8-7 win.

Meagan Fitzgerald pitched a gem in game one only allowing four hits while striking out five Cedar Crest hitters to even her record to 2-2 this season.

The Mighty Macs pushed 15 runs across during the first two innings to give Fitzgerald all the support she would need. Immaculata later added two runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Rachel Kelly was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, and Jessica DeCastro was 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs scored and two walks. All of Immaculata's starters recorded a hit in game one, and 10 batters recorded a hit overall. Jenny Barnholt also had three RBI while Melissa Ejk and Christiana Donofry drove in two runs each.

Immaculata had to play from behind in game two after Cedar Crest plated three runs in the top of the first. The Mighty Macs got two runs back in their half of the inning with Liz Biddle's two-run double into left centerfield.

The Falcons (0-10, 0-2 CSAC) added one more run in the second for the 4-2 lead.

The Mighty Macs then tied the game at 4-4 after Donofry hit a two-run homer off the left field fence.

After a scoreless top half of the third, Immaculata scored the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the inning as Brittany Merkle had a RBI single up the middle to score Biddle.

The Mighty Macs (4-4, 2-0 CSAC) then added three insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth as two runners scored on wild pitches and the third run scored on an error.

After getting the first two Cedar Crest hitters out, Immaculata ran into a bit of trouble in the top of the sixth. A single followed by two walks loaded the bases for the Falcons, and Alexis Baxter then hit a bases clearing double into the gap in right center. Before any further damage, Immaculata was able to get out of the inning.

The game was eventually called due to darkness in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
