Box Score
IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata entered the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs as the fourth seed and hosted the fifth-seeded Rosemont Ravens (12-14) on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall, and the Ravens ended the Mighty Macs (11-15) season with an 80-69 triumph that Immaculata never led. Junior
Mamadou Diakite finished his strong first season as a Mighty Mac with a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds off the bench on 7-for-11 shooting from the field.
Junior
Barry Brockington (12 points) and freshman
Roy Ferrell Jr. (10 points) also chipped in double digits, but it wasn't enough as Rosemont shot 27-for-52 (51.9%) from the field to keep Immaculata at arms' length the entire contest. Coming into the game, Immaculata's rebounding had been a big strength for the team, but the Ravens evened the Mighty Macs at 30 boards a piece in the game.
Sophomore
Tyreek Peeples (8 points) had a team-high four assists.
Rosemont came out of the gates hot, scoring the first six points of the game in the opening two minutes that put Immaculata in an early hole, but Brockington hit a jumper and Peeples hit a three-pointer moments later to keep IU down just three at 8-5.
Rosemont grew their lead as large as seven at 17-10, but Immaculata responded with seven of the next nine points fueled by another Peeples' three-pointer. Diakite made two free throws to cut it to 19-17, but that was the closest IU would get the rest of the way as the Ravens scored the next five points to stretch their lead to seven again.
Rosemont had the lead as large as 11 at 43-32 just before halftime, but freshman
Carl Garner drilled a three pointer from the left wing with two seconds left to send the teams to the locker room with Immaculata down by eight points.
In the second half, Immaculata trimmed the deficit to six at 45-39 on a layup by Brockington, but Rosemont again had an answer.
Diakite had a traditional three point play with 13 minutes left in the game that made it 56-48, but that was the last time Immaculata had the deficit in single digits until two minutes to go. In between, Rosemont got their lead to as large as 17 before Immaculata clawed their way back into the game, however it was too late.
Rosemont iced the game away at the line and finished off the 80-69 victory.
The Mighty Macs finish the season for the second consecutive year in the CSAC quarterfinals, as they fell last year at home to Neumann as the fourth seed.
NOTES: Peeples moved into eighth on the school's career assists list with 102 over his two seasons thus far.
