Box Score
RADNOR, Pa.- Junior
Barry Brockington enjoyed a career-best night with 28 points (10-for-17 FG, 6-for-6 FT) and nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Immaculata (11-14, 9-9 CSAC) fell to Cabrini 77-66 in their regular season finale. The Mighty Macs will now shift their focus to the CSAC playoffs where they will be the fourth seed and host the fifth-seeded Rosemont Ravens on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Alumnae Hall in the quarterfinals.
Senior
Brandon Smith had 12 points and junior
Mamadou Diakite notched his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards.
Immaculata held a 42-36 advantage on the glass, but they shot just 36% from the field while Cabrini (23-1, 17-1 CSAC) knocked down 46% of their shots from the field, including 43% from three-point range.
The Cavaliers never trailed the entire game and that was mostly due to the start they got. Cabrini hit their first four three point baskets, while Brockington hit one for the Mighty Macs, en route to a 12-3 lead just 3:21 into the game. Immaculata would attempt to keep the game in striking distance as Smith hit a pair of lay-ups, but they were unable to cut significantly into the lead.
Cabrini would have the lead at ten for a majority of the half before taking a 37-26 lead to the locker room.
The Mighty Macs shot just 2-for-12 from three point range in the first half where the team has been so effective this year in setting program records for three pointers made, so they moved their offense inside. In the second half, IU scored 20 points in the paint and attempted just nine threes, which brought them back into the game.
Cabrini held a thirteen point lead at 44-31 a couple minutes into the second half, but the Mighty Macs ripped off seven straight points to get back into the game with just over 15 minutes remaining. Brockington scored the first five points before Diakite finished up the run with a lay-up. Cabrini would eventually break the run, but Immaculata would not go away.
Sophomore
Rodney Duncan (7 points) drilled a three to keep it at a six point game at 50-44 with 13 minutes left, and a pair of free throws by Duncan with just under ten minutes remaining again brought IU within six at 57-51. However, Cabrini had an answer every time and never allowed Immaculata to get any closer than six.
The Cavaliers continued to lead as they milked the clock away, but the Mighty Macs again showed their resilience by getting the lead back to six on a jumper by Brockington with 1:54 to go. Cabrini then hit seven of their next eight free throws to wrap up the 11-point regular season ending victory.
Immaculata will look to snap their two-game losing skid when they make their fifth consecutive postseason appearance on Saturday afternoon at home against Rosemont.
