Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- With their playoff position in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) already solidified, Immaculata went on the road looking to build momentum at Gwynedd Mercy (19-6, 15-3 CSAC), but the Griffins led wire-to-wire and claimed the 94-77 victory.  The Mighty Macs (11-13, 9-8 CSAC) already have the fourth seed in the CSAC wrapped up and will host a playoff game Saturday against the fifth seeded Rosemont Ravens after closing out their regular season tomorrow night at Cabrini.

Sophomore Rodney Duncan had a great night (6-for-9, 4-for-5 from three) shooting and led five Mighty Macs in double figures with 17 points while chipping in five assists.  Juniors Mamadou Diakite (four rebounds) and Barry Brockington (six rebounds) had 13 points each, and freshman Roy Ferrell Jr. (five assists) and senior Brandon Smith (eight rebounds) each had 11.

The Griffins raced out to a 9-3 lead right out of the gate, but the Mighty Macs would score six of the next eight points to trim the deficit all the way down to two at 11-9 six minutes into the game.  Smith knocked down three free throws and Duncan hit on his first three pointer of the game to get the Mighty Macs into the game.

However, Gwynedd Mercy scored the next nine points to swell their lead up to 11 points before Ferrell Jr. connected on a three-pointer to halt the run.  Immaculata tried to claw back into the game, but Gwynedd Mercy was 16-of-27 (59.3%) from the field in the opening half to keep a comfortable lead.

The Mighty Macs got as close as six on a jumper by Duncan, but the Griffins got the advantage up to as large as 13 and took a 40-29 lead to the locker room.

In the second half, Immaculata scored on their first three possessions, but the Griffins responded by doing the same which prevented the Mighty Macs from cutting significantly into the lead.

Diakite hit a layup with 15 minutes left in the game to make it a 49-42 contest, and Duncan would hit a three four minutes later to again make it a seven point game at 55-48 with 12 minutes left, but Gwynedd Mercy would not allow them to get any closer.  Gwynedd finished the game shooting 56% from the field and closed out the 94-77 victory.

Immaculata will play their final regular season game tomorrow night at Cabrini at 6:30 p.m. before entering the CSAC playoffs as the fourth seed, hosting the fifth seeded Rosemont Ravens in the quarterfinals.

NOTES: Immaculata set a team record for three pointers attempted in a season with 452 after setting the record for three pointers made at 156 and counting … The team already set the assists record with 355 thus far … Peeples now has 96 assists in his career, good for ninth in school history passing Dan Lepone (2005-08).
