Box Score
IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team clinched its fifth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoff appearance with a 73-59 Senior Night victory over Rosemont (10-14, 8-9 CSAC) when they honored their two seniors,
Brandon Smith and
Jerod Cain. Smith had a memorable night as he got his ninth career double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, which made him the career leader in rebounds in Immaculata history with 528. The Mighty Macs (11-12, 9-7 CSAC) have a game and a half lead on the fourth place spot in the conference, which would give them a home CSAC Quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Sophomore
Tyreek Peeples tied Smith with 17 points on 4-of-6 three point shooting. On the night, Immaculata shot 9-of-19 and also out rebounded Rosemont by a 50-26 margin, their largest of the season.
Junior
Barry Brockington chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, most on the team.
Immaculata led for much of the game, but Rosemont trimmed the lead to one point at 43-42 with just under ten minutes left in the contest. The Mighty Macs needed a response and they got one in a big way with a 16-2 run over four minutes to go up 59-44 and essentially put the game away. Freshman
Roy Ferrell Jr. (8 points) drilled a three-pointer to start the run, then Peeples and Smith scored the rest of the points in the spurt to lift the Mighty Macs. Peeples had six of the points on two three pointers while Smith added the other seven.
Immaculata never allowed Rosemont to get within single digits the rest of the way. The Mighty Macs grew the lead to as large as 18 at 73-55 with 52 seconds left after free throws by freshman
Matt Simon (9 points, 7 rebounds) as they held on for the 14-point victory.
In the first half, Rosemont trailed for just three minutes, which would be the only time they would be behind the entire game. With the game tied at 10-10, Immaculata turned up the defense and allowed only four points over the next eight minutes as the Mighty Macs grew their lead to 25-14. Brockington scored seven straight points to propel IU in front where they would stay for the rest of the game.
Immaculata took a 33-23 lead into halftime before Rosemont clawed back midway through the first half.
Immaculata will close out their regular season with back-to-back road games at Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday and Cabrini on Thursday night.
NOTES: Smith passed teammate
Nelson Torres (2009-13) to become the school's all-time leading rebounder … Smith also moved into second place alone in blocked shots with 58, passing Torres … Junior
