IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team looked to win their third consecutive contest on Monday night at Alumnae Hall, but Gwynedd Mercy (16-5, 12-2 CSAC) took control of the game by leading 43-25 at the break and never looked back on their way to a 74-53 CSAC victory.  Junior Barry Brockington and senior Brandon Smith led the way for Immaculata (9-11, 7-6 CSAC) with 11 points.
 
Junior Mamdou Diakite (7 rebounds), sophomore Tyreek Peeples (5 assists), and freshman Mike Griffin all had six points apiece.
 
Gwynedd Mercy started the game on an 11-4 run, but IU bounced back quickly with an 8-1 spurt of their own.  Sophomore Rodney Duncan, sophomore Tony Calamaro, Smith, and freshman Roy Ferrell Jr. all poured in baskets to contribute to the run. The game remained tied at 14-14, but that would be the closest Immaculata would get as Gwynedd would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
 
The Griffins led 17-16 with 9:22 to go in the first half after a lay-up by Smith, but Gwynedd Mercy then went on a 24-5 run over the next nine minutes to take a commanding 41-21 lead.  Peeples hit a jumper falling away in the right corner to send the teams to locker room with the Mighty Macs trailing 43-25.
 
Twice the Mighty Macs got the Gwynedd advantage down to 15 points early in the second half, both on lay-ups by Diakite, but Gwynedd responded to stay in control.
 
The Griffins finished off the 74-53 victory.  These two teams will meet again next Wednesday at Gwynedd Mercy.
 
Immaculata will look to rebound on Wednesday night when they host Neumann at 8 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
 
NOTES: Smith moved into fourth on the school's free throws made list with 190, passing Sean Fordham (2005-09) … Smith has also now played the 9^th most games at IU with 85 … Peeples has the 10^th most assists in a career in Immaculata history with 84 thus far … Diakite has moved into fifth on the single season rebounds list with 159.
