Women's Basketball Falls To Haverford On Last Second Shot, 53-52

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's Jacquelyne Pizzuto connected on the game-winning jumper with two seconds left as the hosts defeated visiting Immaculata University, 53-52, in non-conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
 
Adriana Sciascia hit her fourth three-point field goal of the game with 5:57 remaining giving the Mighty Macs a four-point edge (49-45). Brittany Merkle added a free throw at the 5:19 mark pushing Immaculata's lead to 50-45.
 
Haverford would keep Immaculata quiet from the field while it scored six points to grab the one-point advantage (51-50) with 1:11 to play. Immaculata was able to tie the score and then go ahead by one (52-51) after Merkle connected on two free throws with 39 seconds remaining.
 
Sciascia had a team-high 18 points as she finished 4-for-6 from the three-point arc. Merkle added nine points and a team-high six rebounds. Sara Smith finished with six points and five rebounds.
 
The game featured 12 lead changes and five ties. Immaculata's largest lead was five points (50-45) with 5:19 remaining in the game. Haverford took its largest advantage, 24-14, with 3:05 to go in the first half. The Fords advantage did not last long as the Mighty Macs held them scoreless the rest of the half while scoring 10 points to even the score at 24-all at halftime.
 
Immaculata will host Ursinus on Wednesday, December 17, at 6 p.m. in the final game before the new year.
