PHILADELPHIA, Pa.-Â The No. 4-seeded Immaculata women's tennis team made it back to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals for the second straight season, and again they faced the top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy Griffins, but the Mighty Macs (11-7) were unable to pull off the upset and fell 5-0.
IU finished the season 11-7, their best record since 2005, and made their second straight postseason appearance as the fourth seed with a 7-3 CSAC record.
Immaculata started strong in doubles, grabbing leads in the first and second spots, but they were unable to hold onto them. Â The Griffins led wire-to-wire in third doubles against sophomore
Annaliese Kambouroglos and freshman
Kelly Gross as IU dropped that one 8-1. Â In first doubles, juniors
Emily Degnan and
Kara Trowbridge were back-and-forth early with the Griffins, but Gwynedd won the final five games of the match to win 8-4. Â In second doubles, senior
Paige Sparks and sophomore
Lauren Degnan  alternated winning games with their opponent until it was 7-6 when the Griffins won the decisive game to hold on for the 8-6 victory.
Heading to doubles down 3-0, the Mighty Macs needed to win five of six matches, but they were unable to stage the comeback. Â

Jenna Fratterelli at sixth singles lost by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores to end the match.
Today's match also marked the final one in the careers of
Paige Sparks,
Emily Degnan, and
Pattie McGinley.
The Griffins will go on to the CSAC Championship to face the winner of Cabrini and Marywood.
