IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's volleyball squad fought off a furious rally by Notre Dame of Maryland University Thursday night to win the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match, 3-1. The Mighty Macs took the match with scores of 25-13, 25-22, 20-25 and 25-23.
 
Immaculata (15-7, 5-3 CSAC) took the opening set without too much trouble and was able to hold off the Gators in the second set for the early 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The third set was a see-saw game. Immaculata held the 20-16 lead Notre Dame (9-12, 4-4 CSAC) scored the final nine points of the set to push the match to a fourth set.
 
In the fourth set, the score was tied at 11-11 when the Gators scored six consecutive points to take a 17-11 edge. Notre Dame would eventually extend its lead to 21-14, and it appeared the Gators would take the match to the deciding fifth set.
 
However, six straight points by the Mighty Macs cut their deficit to 21-20. The two teams traded points and the Gators led 23-21 looking to close out the fourth. Immaculata got within one following a ball handling error by Notre Dame and Gabrielle Guerrera and Stephanie Johler combined for three kills to finish the comeback for the Mighty Macs.
 
Jamie Rombach and Guerrera paced the Mighty Macs with 11 kills apiece. Rombach added three service aces, nine digs and three total blocks. Tess Kieffer recorded nine kills and two blocks. Maranda Jones had a team-leading 28 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Brittany Thompson made 10 assists.
 
Molly Truitt recorded a team-high 20 digs, and Allie Leonard made 10 digs. Stephanie Johler and Marissa Casella both recorded three total blocks.
 
Immaculata heads to Cedar Crest on Saturday for an 11:30 a.m. match.
