BOX SCORELANGHORNE, Pa.- The Immaculata women's tennis team moved one step closer to clinching a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) berth on Friday afternoon with an 8-1 triumph over Cairn. The win moves the Mighty Macs to 6-2 in the CSAC and 10-4 overall, one win higher than their 2013 total.
IU swept the doubles to take an early 3-0 lead. Senior
Paige Sparks and sophomore
Lauren Degnan won 8-5 in the first doubles spot in a close match. Juniors
Emily Degnan and
Kara Trowbridge won easily, 8-2, in the second spot, while sophomore
Annaliese Kambouroglos and senior
Pattie McGinley cruised in the third spot, 8-0.
The Mighty Macs then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to claim the conference victory.
Emily Degnan made it a two-win day with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the second position, while Trowbridge did the same in the fourth spot with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph. Kambouroglos joined her teammates as two-time winners on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the fifth spot.
Sophomores
Jenna Fratterelli and
Nicole Burley each won in straight sets in the sixth and third positions, respectively.
Tomorrow, the Mighty Macs will have a chance to clinch their second straight postseason berth with a 1 p.m. home match against Gwynedd Mercy at the IU Tennis Courts.
