Men's Basketball Evens CSAC Record With 70-57 Victory

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team snapped a five-game losing skid and evened their conference record with a 70-57 victory over Marywood (5-6, 1-3 CSAC) on Wednesday night at Alumnae Hall.  The Mighty Macs (4-7, 2-2 CSAC) were led by sophomore reserve Rodney Duncan and freshman Roy Ferrell Jr. (5 rebounds, 4 assists) with 16 points apiece.

Junior Mamadou Diakite scored all 14 points of his points in the second half to go along with five rebounds as he led Immaculata to a 39-31 advantage after halftime.  Junior Jose Ortiz had 13 points and a team-high three steals as the other double digit scorer.

As a team, the Mighty Macs assisted on 19 of their 24 made field goals.  Junior Barry Brockington led them in rebounds with nine.

In the first half, Marywood controlled the pace early, getting their lead as large as seven at 18-11 before the Mighty Macs closed out the half strong.

Trailing by one at 24-23 with 6:11 remaining, Immaculata closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 31-26 lead to the locker room as they held the Pacers to just two points.  Ferrell Jr. knocked down a three, one of four on the night, before an Ortiz lay-in gave IU a four-point advantage.  After the Pacers got a bucket, Duncan was fouled in the act of shooting a three and knocked down all three free throws to keep him a perfect 18-for-18 from the line for the season and give IU the five point lead heading to the locker room.

Immaculata started the second half just as they finished it with a 9-4 spurt that got the lead to double digits at 40-30 as Diakite fueled the run with five of the points.  However, Marywood did not go quietly.

The Pacers returned with an 11-2 run that trimmed the lead all the way to one at 42-41 with just 10:34 remaining in the game.  Marywood was led by Shane Kellaher and Kendall Harris with 15 points each on the night.

Leading scorers Ferrell Jr. and Duncan would not allow the Pacers to take the lead as they knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead back to seven points.  Marywood would get the lead as low as four, but a late push by Immaculata got the advantage to double digits at 63-52 on Diakite's second successful traditional three-point play of the half with 2:53 to go in the game.

The lead would stay in double digits the rest of the way as the Mighty Macs sealed their second conference victory of the year with a 70-57 triumph.

The Mighty Macs are now 3-0 at home and will look to stay unbeaten at Alumnae Hall as Baptist Bible comes to Immaculata on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
