ROSEMONT, Pa.-The Immaculata men's basketball team carried a three-game winning streak into Rosemont on Wednesday night, but with the score tied at 67-67 late in the contest, the Ravens (9-10, 7-5 CSAC) scored the final seven points of the back-and-forth game on their way to a 74-67 victory. The Mighty Macs (7-10, 5-5 CSAC) saw their streak snapped, but reigning CSAC Player of the Week, junior
Mamadou Diakite, registered his third consecutive double-double with a team-high 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The close conference contest featured 16 lead changes and 10 ties, which the Mighty Macs led most of the way until late.
Senior
Brandon Smith was the only other scorer in double figures with 11 points off the bench to go with five rebounds. Immaculata again dominated the glass with a 42-30 advantage.
Freshman
Carl Garner (9 points) knocked down a free throw with 3:11 remaining in the game to give IU a 67-64 lead, but those would be the last points the Mighty Macs would score.
Rosemont tied the game for the 10
th time on a free throw by Kyle Lafferty with 1:52 to go. The Ravens would hit five more three throws and a lay-up in the closing minutes to put away the 74-67 victory. The Mighty Macs missed their final five shots and turned the ball over twice as they attempted to make a comeback bid.
Coming out of halftime, Immaculata had a 33-29 advantage. Rosemont would tie the game early in the half, but a quick 7-2 spurt capped by a three by sophomore
Rodney Duncan (5 points) to put the Mighty Macs back up 43-48.
The lead would get as high as six on a jumper by freshman
Julian Diaz (7 points) and moments later on a layup by Garner, but Rosemont would tie the game up twice at 51-51 and 55-55 midway through the second half.
Rosemont would take their first lead of the second half with eight minutes to go, but Diakite hit a layup to put IU back up by one. The Mighty Macs would hold that lead until the Ravens closing 10-0 run.
In the first half, the lead changed hands 11 times, but Immaculata appeared to take control late in the half, growing their lead to as large as eight after a three-pointer by freshman
Matt Simon (6 points) before taking their four-point lead to the locker room.
Immaculata will return home on Saturday in a rematch against Keystone at 3 p.m. at Alumnae Hall. The Mighty Macs still hold a 2 ½ game lead for the final playoff position, despite the defeat.
NOTES: Smith is now eighth in Immaculata history in field goals attempted with 525 after passing
