Immaculata Winning Streak Snapped In Final Non-Conference Game

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped in its final non-conference game of the regular season by Haverford College, 60-53, Sunday evening inside Alumnae Hall.

The Mighty Macs (13-4) fell behind early, 7-0, to Haverford (14-1), who was among others receiving votes in the latest Division III national poll, and never recovered. It marked Immaculata's first loss since January 4 and first at home this season.

Adriana Sciascia had a team-best 14 points as she went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Alison Zimny finished with 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Sara Smith had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Brittany Merkle chipped in seven points and six rebounds.

Trailing 54-37 with over seven minutes left to play, Immaculata closed out the game on a 16-4 run to get the deficit down to seven. However, the Mighty Macs ran out of time against the Fords. Sciascia scored six of the team's final eight points to power the rally. Zimny contributed five points and a blocked shot during the run as well.

Though Immaculata outscored Haverford, 27-20, after halftime, it was not enough to overcome the Fords' 40 first-half points. The visitors shot 58.1 percent (18-for-31) from the field in the opening frame, opening a 40-26 advantage at the break.

Nina Voith led Haverford with 17 points, and Shannon Smith had 11. Voith was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.

Immaculata travels to Rosemont on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game with the Ravens.
