Mighty Macs Roll Past Centenary, 76-51

IMMCULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team wrapped up a four-game home stand with a big 76-51 victory over the visiting Centenary Cyclones (2-13, 1-7 CSAC).  The Mighty Macs (5-9, 3-4 CSAC) used a 15-2 first half run to grab a 19-point halftime advantage and Centenary never threatened in the second half as Immaculata grew their lead as large as 31 points.  Junior Jose Ortiz led the way for Immaculata with 17 points and sophomore Rodney Duncan chipped in with 11 points, all in the first half.
 
The Mighty Macs had a big rebounding edge as they won the battle on the boards 46-30, led by junior Barry Brockington's twelve rebounds.  Immaculata also got a big contribution from the bench as the reserves scored 44 points.
 
Leading 8-7 early in the first half, Immaculata scored 12 straight points to take a 20-7 advantage with just under 10 minutes to go in the opening period. Duncan and sophomore Tony Calamaro (8 points) each scored five points in the run while senior Brandon Smith (9 points) knocked down a pair of free throws.
 
Smith completed a traditional three-point play later in the half that got the Immaculata advantage to 18 at 37-19 as the Mighty Macs took a 43-24 lead to the locker room.
 
The Mighty Macs started the second half the same way they finished the first as they outscored the Cyclones 19-7 in the first seven minutes to get the lead up to 31 points at 62-31.  Freshman Matt Simon (9 points) scored seven points in a two-minute stretch to fuel the run.
 
Centenary then scored 11 straight points to cut the lead to twenty at 62-42, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the game.  Calamaro and Ortiz combined to score five straight to keep Immaculata safely in the lead on their way to the 76-51 CSAC win.
 
The Mighty Macs will look to make it two in a row on Monday when they travel to Keystone at 8 p.m.
